We wanted to focus on creating a unique packaging solution rather than a typical square box. The square shape creates wasted cardboard when simply cutting off the corners of the box to hug the shape of the pizza. The drawer allows for easy access and for multiple pizzas to be stacked on top of each other. A cardboard sleeve could be wrapped around the board for easy handling. While my collaborator worked on the structural design, I created all the graphics for the brand.
I wanted to keep the branding very trendy and fun. The color scheme was based on taking the colors of pizza and creating a more uncommon palette from exaggerating those colors. The logo, sides of box, and handle are the same pattern to keep it cohesive. We added a subtle die-cut in the handle to represent the logo UFO. From the packaging we created a menu of 8 pizzas to represent the 8 sides of the box, and also the 8 planets in the solar system.
